Below is a recent email I sent to both Saudi Gazette and Arab News :
I've watched with interest the current events regarding the right of journalists to write with some freedom. At least without the fear of being jailed and lashed simply because someone was offended by something they wrote. Writing under such conditions can only lead to mass silence on very important social issues.
I'm also appalled at the western attacks upon Islam and Saudi Arabia as a whole. While I'm American I'm very much Muslim and enjoy my life here in Saudi Arabia. I find much of the current attacks baseless, hate motivated, as well as arrogant. The western view of they knowing what is best for the entire world is one that I find deplorable. However, being a Muslim I do not support the silencing of other views even though they may offend my sense. If Muhammad pbuh himself could endure the personal attacks with dignity and calmness I do believe it is the duty of every Muslim to do so as well. I am a firm believer of Qur'an and have no doubt in Allah's words "Fain would they extinguish Allah's light with their mouths, but Allah will not allow but that His light should be perfected, even though the Unbelievers may detest (it)." (9:32)
Groups such as the British National Party who continue with anti Islam and Anti Muslim propaganda should be confronted and defeated in a civil manner. A manner which would include counter arguments to their ever growing false accusations against Muslims, be it simply in Britain or world wide. Such manners have been undertaken by Muslims within Britain and has lead to the BNP leader's, Nick Griffin, arrest. After being recorded and exposed by the BBC for stating "That's the way that this wicked, vicious faith has expanded through a handful of cranky lunatics about 1,300 years ago until it's now sweeping country after country,"
It came as much of a shock for me to learn that the British National Party that produces a monthly publication entitled The Voice of Freedom was published by a Muslim owned publishing company in London. According to a report published in the Telegraph their publication is published by Satellite Graphics Ltd of Essex.
A simple web search shows the owners of Satellite Graphics Ltd as Saudi Research and Marketing Group. This company I'm sure is a familiar name, since it owns the Saudi Research and Publishing Company, the same company that owns Arab News. The chairman is Prince Faisal Bin Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
I must say that I'm quite shocked that a Saudi journalist, Dr. Hamza Al-Mizeini, is taken to court in this country and sentenced to jail and lashes for printing things that are no where near what the British National Party has had published. I must say that it is very odd for the leaders of this country to criticize the words of the western world when one of their own benefits from such publications, albeit unknowingly. Will we hear sheikhs address this issue of Muslims who profit off of attacks on Islam and Muslims? What brave journalist will knowingly put his physical skin on the line and bring this to the attention of the Saudi public.
I must say I don't think Arab News would brave this topic, considering it would be a turn against their owners. Kind of like striking the hand that feeds you I suppose. I would hope however that another publication would not only bring this issue to light but also call the Saudi powers that rectify this situation. To put a quick stop in aiding those who are anti Islam, and to stop allowing a system to persecute Saudis who wish to say far less in comparison. There is something very wrong with this over all picture and something should be done.
I for one plan to never buy a product by the Saudi Research and Publishing Group. I also plan to make it known, to the best of my ability, what the group supports in their publications. Namely the anti Islam and anti Muslim publication of the British National Party. It is my hope that the SRPG will evaluate their policies and refuse to publish the BNP publications in the future. It is also my hope that a brave Saudi publication would address this issue, as tactful as they can be, to raise awareness in Saudi Arabia.
