Umar Update

The 22nd of this month Umar will be 8 months and time is flying by. Mr. Man asked me today "There isn't much difference is there? He is doing good right?" I'm biased in that I think he is just perfect but his milestones are delayed. He is learning to sit up correctly, meaning not slouching like many children with DS do. In therapy we are teaching him to get up from his side to a sitting position. I can place him in a restaurant highchair and he'll do fine, even better if there is something behind him filling the gap because he moves so much. Not that putting him in a highchair is the best thing at a restaurant because he thinks sucking the edge of the table is great fun.

So as far as physical development things are moving at a slower pace which is just fine with me. Temperament however he is like any other child and will show you what he wants and his displeasure when he doesn't get it. Case in point, ice pops are one of his favorites. If he sees anyone with an ice pop he screams to let you know it is time to share. It is difficult convincing him that it is all gone and he shows his displeasure.

His siblings can't get enough of him Mariam especially is very close with him and you can tell he misses her if he doestn't see her for a while. It is really great to see that she is so wonderful with him.

His grandpa came in town last week and brought him a few toys which he really enjoys. One included a mat, while the toy as intended was a bit too young for him, he loves to get under the mat itself. He rolls all over the place entangled in the mat having great fun. He also enjoys balls so combining the two will keep him busy for quite some time.

He really is wanting to crawl, however he hasn't figured it out. Instead of putting his stomach up and his legs and hands down things go the opposite way. I have no doubt he'll figure it all out soon enough and that is when the real trouble starts!

Although I'm biased as his mother, I must say he is such a cute and wonderful little boy. I can't imagine this household without him.
